Anagram Solver

Rearrange letters into words. Tick the box to use every letter for a true anagram, or leave it clear to find every shorter word too.

Words appear as you type. Nothing is sent to us.

What counts as an anagram

A true anagram uses every letter of the original exactly once. LISTEN and SILENT are anagrams of each other. TINSEL, ENLIST and INLETS are as well — six letters, rearranged, nothing left over.

Tick Use every letter for that strict behaviour. Leave it unticked and the tool also shows every shorter word hiding inside your letters, which is what you usually want for a tile game.

Worked example

LettersFull anagrams
LISTENENLIST, INLETS, SILENT, TINSEL
STOPOPTS, POST, POTS, SPOT, TOPS
EARTHHATER, HEART, RATHE

Anagrams of a name

Names work too — type a first name, or a first and last name together with no punctuation. Longer names produce more results, so the Starts with and Contains filters help narrow things down.

The small number beside each word is its tile value, using the standard letter scores familiar from tile-based word games. It is a guide to which plays are worth the most — it does not account for premium squares on a board.

About our word list. Results come from ENABLE, a large open English lexicon in the public domain, with offensive terms filtered out. It is not an official tournament dictionary, so a word that appears here may still be challenged in competitive play, and vice versa.

Common questions

What is the difference between an anagram solver and an unscrambler?

A strict anagram uses every letter once. An unscrambler also returns shorter words made from some of your letters. This tool does both — the Use every letter checkbox switches between them.

Can I find anagrams of a whole phrase?

You can enter a phrase and the tool ignores spaces and punctuation, but it returns single words rather than multi-word phrases.

Why does a long word return nothing with Use every letter ticked?

Most long letter combinations have no exact anagram. Untick the box to see the shorter words your letters can make instead.
