5 Letter Word Solver
Every five-letter word you can make, filtered by the letters you know. Useful for Wordle-style daily puzzles and five-letter word games. This edition uses a filtered word list.
Classroom edition — filtered word list, no advertising. What is filtered
Words appear as you type. Nothing is sent to us.
Type the letters you know to see five-letter words appear here.
Using this for a daily five-letter puzzle
Daily five-letter guessing games give you two kinds of information, and the filters here map onto both:
- Letters in the word — type them into Your letters, and add ????? question marks for the ones you do not know yet.
- Letters in a known position — use Starts with and Ends with.
- A letter that must appear somewhere — use Contains.
If you know the word starts with CR and contains an N, enter five question marks, put CR in Starts with and N in Contains.
Good opening words
Strong first guesses cover common letters and avoid repeats. These are all five-letter words made of high-frequency letters:
| Word | Why it works |
|---|---|
| CRANE | Three of the five most common letters, no repeats |
| SLATE | Covers S, L, A, T, E — very high frequency |
| AUDIO | Four vowels in one guess |
| ROATE | Common in solver strategy for wide letter coverage |
About our word list. Results come from ENABLE, a large open English lexicon in the public domain, with offensive terms filtered out. It is not an official tournament dictionary, so a word that appears here may still be challenged in competitive play, and vice versa.
Common questions
Can this solve today's Wordle?
It narrows the possibilities from the clues you already have. Enter the letters you know and use the position filters — the tool shows every five-letter word that still fits.
How do I enter letters I know are in the wrong position?
Put them in the Contains box. That keeps only words containing that letter somewhere, without fixing where it sits.
How many five-letter words are there?
This tool searches 8,000-plus five-letter English words, so a puzzle answer is almost always in the list.
Is it free?
Yes — no account, no sign-up, no email.
